INS Tarangini’s port call at London is part of the Government of India’s celebrations of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahostav through visits of Indian Navy ships to foreign ports in every continent, except Antarctica. For the continent of Europe, London is the chosen destination for the port call and commemorative activities by INS Tarangini.

INS Tarangini is a ‘Three Masted Barque’ which was built in Goa Shipyard and was commissioned on 11 November 1997. The ship has steamed over 2,61,500 nautical miles and is in her silver jubilee year of commission. On the occasion of Independence Day, a Colours ceremony (flag hoisting) was held in the ship in the morning of 15 August 2022 followed by Independence Day reception near the ship’s berth in the evening. The reception included cultural performances and a visit to the ship for the guests.
