Emergency Certificate

An Emergency Certificate can be issued to an Indian national for one-way travel to India in case of non-availability of a valid passport with the applicant (due to loss, damage or expiry) and where a new passport cannot be issued immediately. Emergency Certificate is issued after the cancellation of existing passport of the holder. On arrival in India, he/she will have to contact the concerned Passport Issuing authority in India for issue of new passport.

Documents required:

  1. Duly completed and printed application form (https://embassy.passportindia.gov.in)
  2. Two white background colour photographs with size 2” x 2” (51mm x 51mm) (Please refer to the photo specification mentioned in general guidelines),
  3. Current Passport in original along with self-attested copies of first (personal particulars), last (address) pages and any other endorsement pages and visa page of the passport and additional booklets, if any.
  4. Self-attested copy of UK Entry visa,
  5. Self-attested copy of Biometric Resident Card (BRP) Card or Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR)
  6. Annexure E
  7. Undertaking where Passport is withheld/ kept with UK Home Office [Download]

In case of Lost or Stolen Passport, the following documents, in addition to the above-mentioned documents, is required to be submitted:

  1. Police Report – online police report in respect of lost passport (www.met.police.uk/report/lost-or-found-property).
  2. Letter addressed to Passport Officer, explaining the circumstances under which the passport was lost/stolen/damaged
