Independence Day celebrations at India House

High Commission of UK to India celebrated 70 years of India's independence at India House with unfurling of the national flag by High Commissioner Mr. Y.K. Sinha. High Commissioner read out the address of the President of India to the assembled officers, staff their families, and eminent community members present for this special event.

This followed the successful conduct by the High Commission of the first ever historic Freedom Run at the stroke of the midnight hour of 15 August 2017. The Freedom Run attended by upto 500 Indians of all ages from all communities, and parts of India, commenced from the statue of the Father of the Nation in Parliament Square, passing through iconic locations like the Westminster (British Parliament), Big Ben, London Eye, Westminster and Millennium Bridges, Scotland Yard, Strand, etc, and concluded at India Place, which was lighted-up with colours of the National Flag for this special occasion.

This morning, High Commission also hosted the inauguration of a photo exhibition of some of the biggest names in India's freedom struggle and their connections with the city of London and the UK. This was created by Indian Martyrs Association founded by Ms. Monika Dhami, IRS and Mr. Ajit Mishra.

High Commissioner Sinha also gave away prizes to the award winners of the International Yoga Day quiz organised by the Mission in June this year.
