Passport Information

All applications need to be completed online. Procedures are as follows:

Please apply for Passport https://portal3.passportindia.gov.in/Online/index.html application, photos, documentation, fees etc at the VFS Centre with prior online appointment. Please see detailed information at http://www.vfsglobal.com/India/UK/

For issue of new passport in lieu of lost/stolen/damaged, application form is the same, meant for new passport services.

In case of emergency (family bereavement, medical emergency etc.), please apply under Tatkal and submit print of the application, photos, supporting documents, fees in cash at the High Commission of India, India House, Aldwych, London WC2B 4 NA. Please see the High Commission's website for detailed information https://www.hcilondon.in Applicant can also call at 020 7632 3035 or 0 7768 765 035. However, in those cases wherein clearance is required from other authorities, it will take more than the normal time.

To know the status of issue of passport, applicant is advised to drop an inf.london@mea.gov.in with their full name, date of birth, old passport number.

Indian citizens travelling on Passports which may expire in less than six months should renew their passports before further international travel.

The Indian Citizenship Act, 1955 does not allow dual citizenship. Travel on Indian Passport after obtaining Foreign Citizenship is liable for penalty and Indian passport will be seized by Immigration authorities. After acquisition of citizenship of other country, Indian Passport has to be surrendered within 3 months for which there is a laid down procedure.

PROOF OF DATE OF BIRTH

As per the extant statutory provisions of the Passport Rules, 1980, all the applicants born on or after 26/01/1989, in order to get a passport, had to, hitherto, mandatorily submit the Birth Certificate as the proof of Date of Birth (DOB). It has now been decided that all applicants of passports can submit any one of the following documents as the proof of DOB while submitting the passport application:

(i) Birth Certificate (BC) issued by the Registrar of Births Deaths or the Municipal Corporation or any other prescribed authority whosoever has been empowered under the Registration of Birth Deaths Act, 1969 to register the birth of a child born in India;

(ii) Transfer/School leaving/Matriculation Certificate issued by the school last attended/recognized educational board containing the DOB of the applicant;

(iii) PAN Card issued by the Income Tax Department with the DOB of applicant;

(iv) Aadhar Card/E-Aadhar having the DOB of applicant;

(v) Copy of the extract of the service record of the applicant (only in respect of Government servants) or the Pay Pension Order (in respect of retired Government Servants), duly attested/certified by the officer/in-charge of the Administration of the concerned Ministry/Department of the applicant, having his DOB;

(vi) Driving licence issued by the Transport Department of concerned State Government, having the DOB of applicant;

(vii) Election Photo Identity Card (EPIC) issued by the Election Commission of India having the DOB of applicant;

(viii) Policy Bond issued by the Public Life Insurance Corporations/Companies having the DOB of the holder of the insurance policy.

PIO Card/Conversion of PIO to OCI

Important Information for PIO card holders

The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) has mandated that international travel documents should be machine readable with effect from 1st October, 2018. Therefore, it is necessary for PIO Card holders to obtain machine readable OCI Cards in lieu of handwritten valid PIO Cards. The Indian Immigration Authorities will continue to consider valid PIO Cards for entry/exit into/from India till September 30, 2019 along with foreign passport.

However, PIO Card holders are advised to get their PIO Card converted to OCI Card. PIO Card holders can apply online for conversion at http://passport.gov.in/oci/ and submit print of application, passport, specified photos, documentation, fees etc at the VFS Centre (www.vfsglobal.com/India/UK ).The charges for conversion of PIO to OCI are £ 66/- plus VFS service charges.
